Since its founding in 1929, The Dallas Foundation has awarded more than $505 million in grants to more than 3,000 nonprofit agencies. And we want to do more. We’re always looking for innovative approaches to solving community problems and meeting community needs.
We are pleased to announce that we have launched a new online grantmaking portal. Through this portal, grant seekers will submit both Letters of Inquiry and, for those invited, completed grant applications. Please read the information below to learn how to apply for a grant from The Dallas Foundation.
Who Can Apply
The Foundation considers grant proposals from tax-exempt nonprofit organizations for a variety of charitable purposes. All of our competitively awarded grants go to agencies that serve Dallas County. Your agency may be located outside the county; however, more than half of your clients must be Dallas County residents to qualify for a competitive grant.
Grants may be awarded for capital projects, programs, capacity building or general operating support. We give priority to proposals that:
- Are likely to make a clear difference in the quality of life for a substantial number of people within Dallas County
- Promote cooperation and collaboration among agencies in meeting critical needs
When to Apply
We accept Letters of Inquiry (LOI) two times per year, in the Spring (Field of Interest Funds) and in the Fall (Community Impact Fund). Grant applications are sent to organizations that are selected to submit a full proposal after evaluation of the Letter of Inquiry. Field of Interest Funds
Letters of Inquiry to the Field of Interest Funds
may be submitted between January 1 and the first business day of March
if the agency provides services in Dallas County for:
Community Impact Fund
Letters of Inquiry for the Community Impact Fund are accepted between June 1 and the first business day of August. Community Impact grants support a variety of causes, including social services, education, healthcare, and the arts.
How to Apply
First, you must create an account through our online grantmaking portal. Once you have done so, you should receive an email confirming your account status. Once your account is confirmed, please return to this page and select the appropriate link below to begin the LOI submission process.
How to Submit a Grant Report
Please note, the online reporting feature is only applicable for grants awarded after September 2015. If the grant you are reporting on was made prior to September 2015, you will need to submit a paper report using the grant report form provided with your payment letter.
To access your grant report, you must log in to the online portal using the e-mail address and password used when submitting your grant application. Once you have logged in, a listing of applications will appear. In the top left corner, click on Follow-up Reporting and your required report will show up in the report list. Select the report (also called Requirement) to be completed.
