The
Dallas City Hall is a nine-story, 691,000-square-foot inverted pyramid set
on a seven-acre plaza. Renowned architect I.M. Pei designed City Hall and
its plaza. His other well-known works include the Grand Louvre in Paris.
His Dallas commissions include the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, Fountain
Place and Energy Plaza. City Hall plaza is home to many outdoor events as
well as The Dallas Piece, a monumental sculpture by Henry Moore. Also in
this part of town are the old Federal Reserve Bank, the Convention Center,
Pioneer Park Cemetery and the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. Dallas' main
library has a copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed on July 4,
1776. View it in the Declaration of Independence Room on the seventh floor,
a floor that also houses a priceless First Folio of Shakespeare - the first
complete edition of Shakespeare's plays, printed in 1623.
