The Dallas Foundation rated highest in donor satisfaction among 26 community foundations surveyed this fall by the Center for Effective Philanthropy.
The center, based in Cambridge, Mass., created its Donor Perception Report in 2009 to provide community foundations across the country with a better understanding of what donors value and which services and programs are most relevant and effective.
Almost 40 percent of the Dallas Foundation’s current donors returned the extensive confidential survey, which covered a number of aspects of their relationship with the foundation. Many donors commented positively on the foundation’s work in the community. One stated, for example, “It was the leadership of the Dallas Foundation that spurred my charitable efforts.”
Donors also mentioned that the foundation helped expand their goals and the impact of their giving through site visits to nonprofit organizations and donor education events.
The Dallas Foundation, established as a community foundation in 1929 by The Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Times Herald and the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, provides donors with flexible means of making gifts and bequests, the income from which primarily supports the charitable causes of the city and county of Dallas.
