Dallas, Texas (January 17, 2019) – During last night’s annual meeting of the Dallas CPA Society, Emily George of BKD, LLP was presented with the inaugural Dallas CPA Society Young Philanthropy Award. The award, co-sponsored by The Dallas Foundation and the Dallas CPA Society, recognizes a volunteer’s service while also giving a cash prize to the nonprofit of their choice. In Emily’s case the award will be made to Africa Family Rescue.
Nominations for the inaugural Young Philanthropist Award were accepted by The Dallas Foundation for individuals under the age of 40 who have significantly impacted a nonprofit organization in Dallas. The award celebrates the change-makers who dedicate their time and talents to making our community a better place for everyone.
Emily’s deep dedication and desire to help nonprofits make a big impact led her to Africa Family Rescue, a faith-based nonprofit organization designed to restore hope and dignity to families, communities and churches affected by extreme poverty in Africa. Since 2014, Emily has assisted with financial reporting, payroll management, compiling 990 information, and more. By volunteering her financial knowledge and providing pro bono accounting support to the organization, she has enabled Africa Family Rescue to better focus on their mission.
This year’s finalists were announced during the Dallas CPA Society Chapter Holiday Party on December 13 . Other finalists included Alison Daubert of Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, who serves as an active mentor in the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. YWPN is a nonprofit agency that partners with public school districts across the state of Texas to operate the largest network of all-girls, public, college preparatory schools in the nation; and Tania Sederdahl of Bland Garvey, who volunteers at Joni and Friends, a ministry dedicated to extending the love and message of Jesus Christ to people who are affected by disability around the world.
