Partners for Progress: North Texas Food Bank

At The Dallas Foundation, we believe everyone deserves reliable access to nutritious food. Food security is more than meeting an immediate need—it creates the foundation for healthier families, stronger communities, and greater opportunity. When individuals don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from, they can focus on work, school, health, and building a brighter future.

That’s why we are proud to partner with the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), one of the region’s leading organizations working to fight hunger and increase food access across North Texas. Through an extensive network of partner agencies and innovative programs, NTFB helps ensure individuals and families receive the nutritious food they need while addressing the root causes of food insecurity.

Why This Work Matters

Food insecurity affects every community.

Families facing hunger are often forced to make impossible choices between groceries, housing, healthcare, childcare, and transportation. For children, inconsistent access to nutritious food can impact learning and development. For older adults and individuals with chronic health conditions, it can directly affect health outcomes and overall well-being.

Organizations like North Texas Food Bank provide more than meals. They help create stability, improve health, and strengthen communities by ensuring people have access to one of life’s most basic necessities.

What North Texas Food Bank Does

For more than 40 years, North Texas Food Bank has worked to close the hunger gap across the region through food distribution, strategic partnerships, and community programs.

Their work includes:

  • Distributing nutritious food through hundreds of community partners
  • Supporting children, seniors, and families experiencing food insecurity
  • Expanding access to federal nutrition programs such as SNAP
  • Addressing the root causes of hunger through education and advocacy

By working alongside food pantries, schools, community organizations, and volunteers, North Texas Food Bank reaches hundreds of thousands of people each year while building a more equitable and resilient food system.

Our Collaboration

The Dallas Foundation is proud to support organizations that strengthen the health and well-being of our community.

Our partnership with North Texas Food Bank began in 1994 and reflects decades of shared commitment to fighting hunger across North Texas.

Since that time, The Dallas Foundation has awarded more than $186,000 through our Community Impact Fund, nearly $150,000 through competitive field-of-interest grants, and more than $118,000 through designated fund support.

Together with our fundholders, total grantmaking to North Texas Food Bank has exceeded $6.9 million, with 136 donor-advised funds recommending grants in support of its mission. During times of increased need, The Dallas Foundation has also provided emergency assistance, including a SNAP EBT emergency support grant to help expand access to nutritious food.

Through partnerships like this, philanthropy helps ensure more people have access to healthy food while strengthening the network of organizations working to end hunger in our community.

How to Support North Texas Food Bank

Donors, fundholders, and advisors can help advance North Texas Food Bank’s mission through strategic philanthropic investments that expand food access and strengthen long-term solutions to hunger.

Support may take many forms, including gifts that help provide nutritious meals, strengthen food distribution efforts, expand nutrition assistance programs, and increase emergency response capacity during times of crisis.

Community members can also make a direct impact by volunteering at the Food Bank or participating in food drives that help stock shelves for neighbors in need.

Together, philanthropy and volunteerism help ensure more North Texans have reliable access to nutritious food and the opportunity to build healthier futures.
