At The Dallas Foundation, we believe lasting community change happens when generosity is paired with expertise. That’s why we proudly partner with Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas (JFS), a trusted nonprofit delivering holistic support that strengthens financial stability, mental health, and family resilience across our community.
Through innovative programs, JFS helps individuals and families move from crisis to stability; not just addressing immediate needs but building long-term pathways to independence.
What Jewish Family Service Does
JFS is a nonsectarian mental health and social service agency serving thousands of individuals and families across Greater Dallas. Its integrated approach combines financial coaching, career training, food security programs, behavioral health counseling, and senior services to meet people where they are and help them move forward with dignity.
At the core of the JFS model is the understanding that financial hardship rarely exists in isolation. Economic instability often intersects with mental health challenges, employment barriers, and family stress. By providing coordinated, wrap-around support, JFS ensures families receive not only financial relief but also the tools, guidance, and emotional support needed to sustain progress.
Why This Work Matters
In a rapidly growing region like Dallas, rising costs of housing, childcare, healthcare, and transportation can push hardworking families into survival mode. Many individuals are employed and doing everything right, yet remain one unexpected expense away from crisis.
Breaking that cycle requires more than a one-time check. It requires structure, accountability, coaching, and compassion.
By combining financial assistance with professional counseling and measurable progress tracking, JFS helps participants build savings, reduce debt, strengthen mental resilience, and create achievable plans. The result is not only economic mobility for families, but a stronger, more stable community for us all.
Our Collaboration
This collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship. Since 1997, fundholders have consistently supported JFS, reflecting deep trust in its mission and leadership. Altogether (through donor-advised funds, Move the Needle, competitive funds, and foundation-directed grants), The Dallas Foundation has granted more than $1.23 million to advance JFS’ vision of self-sufficiency and well-being for all.
One powerful example of this partnership in action is the Move the Needle program, created by Foundation fundholders Ike and Candy Brown in collaboration with The Dallas Foundation and Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas. When the Browns envisioned helping a hardworking family break the cycle of financial instability, they needed a trusted nonprofit partner capable of delivering both structure and measurable impact. Together, the partners designed a one-year initiative that combines monthly financial support with personalized savings goals, financial coaching, behavioral health counseling, and ongoing progress tracking. JFS provides case management and accountability that ensure meaningful outcomes: helping families reduce debt, rebuild savings, strengthen financial habits, and move toward long-term stability.
Together, this sustained partnership demonstrates how thoughtful philanthropy, paired with proven nonprofit expertise, creates lasting impact across Greater Dallas.
