Partners for Progress: Trinity Park Conservancy

At The Dallas Foundation, we believe great cities are built by great partnerships. Our work with Trinity Park Conservancy brings one of Dallas’s boldest projects to life. Harold Simmons Park is a 250-acre green space along the Trinity River. It aims to unite communities, celebrate nature, and drive equitable growth.

A Monumental Groundbreaking

On April 8, 2025, local leaders and residents gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony. It marked the official start of construction. The event featured live performances, food trucks, and shovel digs by attendees of all ages. Trinity Park Conservancy Board Chair Deedie Rose said, “We’re not just building a park; we’re transforming a city.”

What’s Coming to Harold Simmons Park

The $325 million park will offer many amenities to foster connection and recreation:

  • A 40,000-square-foot event lawn and event center for gatherings

  • A “six-tower” playground with tube slides and water play

  • Picnic groves and scenic overlooks with river and city views

  • The largest skate and bike park in Dallas

  • A cable ferry and a prairie walk with native wildflowers

Two hundred acres will be dedicated to a nature preserve. It will provide a sanctuary for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for visitors.

A Legacy of Generosity

The park honors the late Harold Simmons. His widow, Annette Simmons, donated $50 million. It is the largest private gift to a Dallas city project. This gift shows strong community support for the park’s development.

Connecting Communities Across the Trinity

Located between the Margaret McDermott and Ronald Kirk Bridges, Trinity Park Conservancy designed the park to bridge communities on both river sides. The park will feature four scenic overlooks and a land bridge over Beckley Avenue. These will improve connectivity and access for West Dallas and Oak Cliff residents.

What’s Next?

As construction progresses, we’ll continue to share updates on key milestones, including the completion of the West Overlook, the opening of the skate and bike park, and the unveiling of the cable ferry. Stay tuned for more exciting developments as we work together to create a space that celebrates the spirit and unity of Dallas.
