The Dallas Foundation has a number of scholarship funds, each with a different purpose and eligibility requirements. Please carefully review the listing below to ensure eligibility before submitting an application.

The Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation awards scholarships and bar study grants to law students. The following students are eligible to apply for scholarships: (i) incoming law students who have applied to begin their first (1L) year of law school in Fall 2026 (ii) current first-year (1L) law students who will begin their second (2L) year of law school in Fall 2026, and (iii) current second-year (2L) students who will begin their third and final (3L) year of law school in Fall 2026. The following students are eligible to apply for bar study grants: current third-year (3L) law students who will graduate by December 2026 and who plan to take the Texas state bar exam in 2026.

Internship Guidelines: The Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation invites those law students who are in the process of completing their first- or second-year classes to apply for the DHLF Judicial Internship Program. Judges from the Dallas area civil and criminal courts will be participating. Applicants must have completed first-year law school courses from an accredited law school, including civil procedure, legal research, and legal writing courses. All students in Accredited Law Schools (including the UNT Dallas College of Law) are eligible to apply. The Foundation grants stipends to the students chosen to participate in the program. Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of a four-week internship.
Internships (to last 4-6 weeks) may be done the first half of the summer, or the second half of the summer, subject to each Court’s preference and availability. Interns will receive a stipend of approximately $2,000.00 for the internship.

The Hirsch Family Scholarship was established as a scholarship fund in 2009. It currently benefits dependent children of active employees of Benestar Holdings Pretzilla, BIAMP, DSS Group, DZYNE Technologies, Eagle Materials, Ergo Baby, Highlander Partners, Highlander Training Center, Highpoint Aerotechnologies, McIntosh Group, Niteo, RMS Beauty, Sferra, Tapatio, and Target RWE, LLC.

The Buster Martin Scholarship supports graduating seniors from Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School in Dallas who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to their educational and career goals. The scholarship considers academic performance, financial need, personal character, and community involvement to help students successfully pursue a four-year college degree.

Norma and Don Stone have established a scholarship program in honor of the heroic efforts of Rogene Russell and Doug Howard who have helped students who otherwise would have no means to continue their musical studies and education. The scholarships will assist students From Booker T. Washington High School or the Fine Arts Chamber Players/Basically Beethoven Music Education Initiatives who show an aptitude for classical composition, instrumental music, or voice, and who have the desire to pursue a college degree but require financial assistance to do so.

The Tommy Tranchin Award was established at The Dallas Foundation to support students with physical, emotional, or intellectual disabilities who have shown promise or passion in a chosen field of interest. Tommy’s family wants to recognize his creativity and adventurous spirit by helping other young people with disabilities develop their own talents and explore new opportunities.
Please note that the Tommy Tranchin Award is NOT intended to offset costs associated with obtaining a college or university degree. Instead, the award is intended to support creative projects, performances, training activities, and participation in workshops, seminars, and competitions. Creative proposals for new work are especially encouraged. Geographic limitations: Resident of North Texas
Eligibility:
Awards will be given annually, with amounts of up to $3,000. In cases in which the applicant proposes to attend an institution or program, confirmation of the student’s enrollment will be required. Applicants may also request funds for travel, equipment, and other related expenses. After completing the proposed activity, award recipients will be required to submit a final report with an account of how the award funds were spent.

The Hopson-Laurent Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 to benefit qualified applicants from Fort Towson and Choctaw County, Oklahoma.

The Mitchell/Tufts Foundation Scholarship was established at The Dallas Foundation in 2014. The goal of the Fund is to make a college degree or vocational certification possible for members or persons active in the life of a Presbyterian church in the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) in North Central Texas, or in Los Angeles and surrounding communities, who are students of promise and can demonstrate financial need.

The Robert E. Motley Scholarship was established at The Dallas Foundation in 2011 by Mrs. Morynne Motley to honor her late husband, Robert E. Motely. This scholarship aims to help high school students in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District in California.

The Myrna D. Schlegel/AWARE Scholarship was originally established in 1999 to honor Myrna Schlegel, a registered nurse. During her tenure of developing and managing 2,500 nursing and retirement beds, she recognized the overwhelming need for trained professionals in the field of gerontology. In 2016, Myrna, in partnership with AWARE (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education), transferred the Myrna D. Schlegel/AWARE Scholarship Fund to The Dallas Foundation in order to better orchestrate the details of the scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded to nursing students who have chosen to devote their careers to work in the field of gerontology, especially in dealing with dementia.

The Sunset Foundation, Inc. created this scholarship to benefit graduating seniors of Sunset High School with a 3.0 minimum GPA or better.
